Who Is Jannat Bishnoi? Young Student Leader Seen With Rahul Gandhi During Supreme Court March

Jannat Bishnoi, a DUSU executive councillor and NSUI member, drew attention while standing beside Rahul Gandhi during the opposition's Supreme Court march in Delhi, held to demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation over alleged vote theft.

Opposition protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar intensified on Monday as Rahul Gandhi led a march towards the Supreme Court in New Delhi, demanding his resignation over allegations of “vote theft” and electoral irregularities. Amid thousands of protesters gathered in central Delhi, one young face repeatedly caught public attention: Jannat Bishnoi, a student leader seen standing beside Gandhi on a truck and raising slogans during the demonstration.

Following the Congress Party's campaign and protests by CJP, the opposition has also stepped up its demand for Kumar's resignation. Gandhi took to the streets again on Monday evening, leading opposition leaders and supporters towards the Supreme Court. Photographs and videos from the march showed several people accompanying him, but Bishnoi's repeated appearance alongside senior Congress leaders drew particular attention.

Bishnoi was seen standing on the truck with Rahul Gandhi, wearing a white shirt and raising slogans among the demonstrators. Her presence alongside Gandhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and Neha Bora prompted questions about her identity and political involvement.

Jannat Bishnoi is an executive councillor of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) and a member of the Congress party's student wing, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI). She is a second-year BA student at Delhi University's Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College. Originally from Rajasthan, she has been active in campus politics and student protests in Delhi.

Bishnoi's involvement in student activism extends beyond electoral protests. According to NDTV, she has been closely involved in initiatives to improve women's safety on campus. Her demands include a CCTV network and pink police booths. She has also participated in environmental campaigns, including a campaign related to the Rajasthan Tree Protection Bill.

Her Instagram account features videos from various protests and NSUI events. In one video, Bishnoi leads a group of women carrying a banner reading “Smash the patriarchy” while raising the slogan “We want justice.” The demonstration was part of wider protests across Delhi-NCR over women's safety following the rape of a minor in Kalkaji, Delhi.

Bishnoi's appearance alongside Gandhi on Monday brought her student activism into the spotlight during a major opposition demonstration. As the crowd grew in central Delhi, Gandhi climbed onto a truck with Priyanka Gandhi and Neha Bora, while Bishnoi stood alongside them, raising slogans as opposition leaders greeted protesters.

The march was organised to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of electoral irregularities and “vote theft.” Thousands of people gathered in central Delhi as INDIA bloc leaders began moving towards the Supreme Court.

While the opposition leaders were marching, their legal team filed a petition against the head of the Election Commission over the alleged “vote theft.” However, police stopped the leaders after they had covered only a short distance.

Following the police intervention, Rahul Gandhi himself proceeded to the Supreme Court. He went there to seek an interim stay on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The march, the legal challenge and the demand for Kumar's resignation brought the opposition's allegations against the electoral process into focus, while Bishnoi's presence highlighted the participation of student leaders in the demonstration.
